Encounter With God

This is a small discussion group that meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The small group studies the current readings in Encounter with God, the daily Bible study plan offered by the church put out by Scripture Union.

Folks who use Encounter regularly are welcome as are any other interested folks.   It is open to any who want to study and discuss Scripture and pray for one another.
Essential Bible Series

This group meet on Sunday nights as part of the Salem Family night.

It is called 100 Essentials.  This is a plan (from Scripture Union) for studying the 50 most important passages in the Old Testament and 50 passages in the New Testament.  This tends to be a lively discussion - not lecture.
Spiritual Life

The PERSONAL SPIRITUAL LIFE course is designed to teach the basic concepts and principles of the spiritual life so that they can personally grow to spiritual maturity and live a life that is pleasing to God.

Classes are from the BIBLE TRAINING CENTRE FOR PASTORS AND CHURCH LEADERS.  These classes are designed by Dennis Mock for the specific purpose of providing basic Bible training for national pastors and church leaders.   Most students have not the privilege of attending a Bible college or seminary, and these courses are meant to fill this need.

The “Personal Spiritual Life” course is based on the Scriptural teaching of the definition and nature of the Spiritual life and the role of the Holy Spirit.  We are discussing the real goal of the Spiritual Life.  The course especially stresses the fact that every Believer has POSITIONAL Sanctification as a part of Salvation. He or she needs to act upon the truth of the Bible to achieve PRACTICAL Sanctification. Therefore the course is practical and deals with what the Bible teaches about false concepts as well as the facts of the work of the Holy  Spirit in daily life.

The leader teaching these classes locally in the Salem Baptist Church, holds the ThM degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.  His college degree, BA with major in Bible is from Houghton College.  He also attended Grace Theological Seminary.  After 36 years in the pastorate, Bill has been impressed by the need of more church leaders to be better equipped for Christian service through a better understanding of the Believer's position in Jesus Christ and the essential resources God has provided through the Word and the Holy Spirit.  This is the reason he is thrilled to be able to teach this course called PERSONAL SPIRITUAL LIFE, which is the sixth of ten courses in the BIBLE TRAINING CENTRE curriculum.

These courses are open to everyone who is a believer, and are taught on Sundays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  The courses are always non-denominational, centering only on the Bible, and at present several from non-Baptist churches are in attendance in the  classes.

To connect the community to Christ.
